Battlescape LARP

Welcome to Battlescape LARP’s Manual Handling Induction. This training is designed to ensure the safe lifting and movement of heavy objects, such as bollards, during our activities. Your safety is our top priority, and we want to provide you with the knowledge and techniques to minimize the risk of injury.

– Manual handling of heavy objects can pose a risk of injury to your back, shoulders, and other muscles if not done correctly.

– Before attempting to handle heavy objects, assess the object’s weight and your physical capabilities. If you have any concerns about your ability to handle a particular object, seek assistance.

– If you are wearing heavy armor that limits your mobility and agility, please consider deferring the manual handling tasks to those with less armor and greater physical capability.

– Wear appropriate clothing and footwear that provide stability and protection.

– Stand close to the object with your feet shoulder-width apart for stability.

– Bend at your hips and knees, not your back. Keep your back straight and maintain its natural curve.

– Get a good grip on the object, ensuring your hands are positioned evenly.

– Keep the object close to your body to reduce the strain on your back.

– Use your legs to lift or move the object, not your back. Push up from your legs while keeping your back straight.

– When turning with a heavy object, pivot your feet instead of twisting your upper body. Twisting can strain your back.

– For objects weighing 15 kgs or more, use teamwork. Communicate clearly with your teammates to coordinate the manual handling.

– Assign a leader to provide directions and ensure everyone is on the same page.

– Do not attempt manual handling of objects that are too heavy for you alone. Seek help or use mechanical assistance.

– Those with little armor and greater physical capability should take on the primary manual handling roles when possible.

– When setting down an object, reverse the manual handling technique. Bend at the hips and knees while keeping your back straight.

– Lower the object carefully, ensuring it is secure and stable in its new position.

– If you are involved in repetitive manual handling tasks, take regular breaks to rest and stretch. Overexertion can lead to injuries.

– If you notice any safety concerns related to manual handling or the condition of objects, report them to the nearest Battle Master immediately.

– Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures in case of accidents or injuries during manual handling activities.

By following these guidelines and using proper manual handling techniques, you can contribute to a safer environment during activities involving heavy manual handling in Battlescape LARP. Remember, safety is a collective responsibility, and we are here to support each other. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask for assistance or clarification.

Thank you for your commitment to safety and for being a valuable part of the Battlescape LARP community. Enjoy your LARP adventures! .
